So, this is a quick tutorial that will allow you to learn the basics of Torrent's.
What is a Torrent?Torrent is a small file that contains all the information needed to download a file the torrent was made for. That means it contains file names, their sizes, where to download from and so on. You can get torrents for almost anything on lots of web sites and torrent search engines.
In other words, if you wanted to download the full version of The Sims without buying it, you can download it illegally! Yay! Here's how to do it:
1] First you'll need to download a torrent client. This is a program where you can upload your torrent you found on the internet, and it will start to download onto your computer. There are many out there, but some suggestions are BitTorrent, uTorrent or Vuze. Download and install one of those programs.
2] Now, you'll need to find a torrent. Luckily, there are many torrent search engines that do the dirty work for you, and make it quite simple to find a good, healthy torrent (one with no viruses, and good seed/leech ratio). Some websites that I use are The Pirate Bay, MiniNova or Isohunt.
3] Once you've decided what website to search upon, locate the search box on the website, and type in what you would like to download. For example, if I wanted to download The Sims 2, then that's what I would type in the box.
4] You'll see some results now. Look among the results, and if you find a link that looks decent, click upon it. Usually there will be a brief explanation on what is included in the torrent by the author. Also, there will almost always be comments from users that have downloaded before. These comments are a great way to tell if the torrent is safe to download, and if its really what you're looking for. For example, if there is a comment that says 'Trojan, don't download'. Use common sense and don't download it, silly.
5] So, once you're done browsing, and you've found the torrent you like, then download it onto your computer. Once its there, open your torrent client (BitTorrent, vuze, utorrent, etc), and drag the torrent into the program. Sometimes your computer automatically recognizes that its a torrent, and may automatically bring the torrent into the program for you (I know that this happens on BitTorrent client), which makes the process a bit easier. Now you'll see the program start to download, and the ETA (estimated time left) for the download.
6] When your download has finished, then you may have to use another program to open it ( if it's an .iso, .bin, .cue, etc ). There may be a readme in the files you downloaded to tell you how to open the program you just downloaded on your torrent client. You may also need a KeyGen (Key Generator, or a Serial Generator) to run your program with. KeyGens usually show up as viruses on your computer's antivirus, but be advised, that KeyGens are not viruses. They contain files that look similar to that of a viruses, but they will not do harm to your computer. You can delete them after you've finished with them if you like, also. Just don't be one of those noobs who goes on the Torrent Comments saying 'THE KEYGEN IS A VIRUS!'. Because it's not.
7] So you should be finished. If there are any other questions or problems, you can contact me by PM or in a comment below
